 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line Lanzarote hotels warning Moves by the Canarian government to legalise several hotels built in Lanzarote in breach of planning regulations could open the floodgates to more problems, warns the island's PSOE party. Lanzarote - 17.03.2010 - As speculation mounts that emergency powers will be used to resolve the situation of the hotels, located mainly in Playa Blanca, Carlos Espino of the Lanzarote Cabildo has reminded the government that many of the illegal hotels were built as a result of massive cash bribes paid by the developers to local council officials. 'The courts have ruled definitively that they are illegal and the government would be condoning the actions of criminals if they are not pulled down' says the PSOE.
